Playing songs Press the jog lev er upward.
Skipping to the previous/next song Move the jog lever to (backward) or (f orward).
Move and hold the jog lever to skip to the beginning of the pr evious or next folder .
Shuffle playback Press the SHUF(Shuffle)/PLA YLISTS button to pla y back songs in random order .
During shuffle playback, you cannot skip to the previous or next folder , even if y ou move and
hold the jog lever .
Playing a playlist Press a nd hold the SHUF(Sh uffle)/PLA YLISTS b utto n to play a p laylist.

How to install the earbuds A t purc hase, M size earbuds ar e installed (S and L sizes are also su pplied). T o enjo y better sound quality ,
chang e the size of the earbuds o r adjust the earb ud position to fit in yo ur ears comfo rtably and sn ugly .
When yo u change the ea rbuds, twist while installing them firmly on the player t o preven t the earbud from
detaching and r emaining in yo ur ear .
If an earb ud becomes damaged, o ptional earbud s (EP -EX1) are a vailable f or purc hase.
How to store the player into the holder T o preven t magnetic leakage, sto re the play er in the supplied ho lder whenever carry ing or when no t using
the player .
The magnet is on the right side.
Do not place credit cards or A TM cards,
etc. (magnetic coded car ds) near the
player when it is not stor ed in the
holder to prevent damage t o the
magnetic coding on the cards .
Hold the player by the holder and

How to place the player on your ears Check the left (L) and right (R) parts of the player. Separate the left and right parts. These parts are magnetically coup led.
Hang the neck band over the back of your neck and ears , and place the earbuds into
your ears. 2 Preparing the Player Charging the player U pon purc hase, first, charg e the player .
Connect the player to a running computer using the stand. If a screen a ppears presen ting a choice o f actions, click “ Cancel. ”
Charging starts. The sta tus lam p blinks slowly during c harging. When c harging is
comp leted, the statu s lamp will stop b linking and light dimly while the play er is connected
to the com puter . For details about c harging time and the ba ttery duration, see
“S pecifications ” on the rever se side.
Checking the remaining battery power Remaining bat tery power is indicated in the OPR la mp . When the O PR lamp ch anges to
red, recha rge the bat tery .

3 Playing Music Hints When yo u press the jog lever up ward or move i t forward/backwar d after separating the left an d
right parts of the play er , the player will turn on and s tart playback. If you wa nt to ski p to the
previous/next so ng, move the jog lever after p layback starts.
After you p ress the jog lever , the OPR lamp b links green and red alterna tely and the beep is hear d
repeatedly un til the playback starts. Please wait until the OPR la mp blinking an d the beeping
stops.

ZAPPIN playback The play er plays back song c lips fo r about 4 seconds each.
If the most r ecognizable passage of the song ca nnot be found , the song is play ed back from about
the 45 second point fro m the beginning. If the length of the song is under a bout 45 seconds, the
song is pla yed back from some poin t b efore the end o f the song.
Skipping to the previous/next song, shuffle playback, or playlist playback during ZAPPIN playback Y ou ca n skip to the pr evious/next song, pla y back songs in rando m order , or play a pla ylist.
The method of operatio n is the same as for n ormal playback.
Changing the playback time of song clips in ZAPPIN playback The playback time fo r song clips ca n be set to either “Long ” or “ Short. ”

Press and hold the jog lev er until either voice
guidance is heard.
When you press and hold the jog lev er until
the voice guidance of “Zappin long” is
heard, the playback time of song clips
changes to about 15 seconds (Long). When
you press and hold the jog lever un til
“Zappin short ” is heard during “Long”
playback, the playback time of song clips
returns to about 4 seconds (Short).
To stop playback completely during ZAPPIN playback Press the jog lever to r eturn to normal pla yback, then press the jog lever again.

By drag-and drop using Windows Explorer To play back the most melodic and rhythmical song clips When yo u transfer songs usin g Conten t T ransfer software with the 12 TONE AN AL YSIS set to “ A utom atic ” or
“ Always ON, ” the information o f the most recognizable sections based on melody a nd rhythm will be found an d
added to each song. Then, the most melodic and r hythmical clips fro m each song can be play ed back sequentially
during ZAPPIN pla yback.

How to Install the Bundled Software (Operation Guide included) Connect the player to the supplied stand. Connect the USB cable of the stand to a running computer. to the USB connector

player may take some minutes to be recogni zed by the computer .
Double-click “Setup.exe.” The install wizard a ppears.

Follow the on-screen instructions. After executing “ Setup .exe, ” the W ALKMAN Guide shortcut a ppears on the desktop o f your com puter .
Wi th the player conne cted to your com puter , whe n instal lation of bundled sof tware is completed, Content
T ransfer star ts automatically .
Double - click ( W ALKMAN Guide) on the desktop to start the W ALKMAN Guide.
Hints Y ou can sta rt the W ALKMAN Guide and Con tent T ransfer fro m the “ start” menu (disp layed by c licking
“ start”).
If yo u delete the “Setu p.ex e ” f ile and “I nstall” fo lder in the player b y forma tting the built-in flash memory
of the play er , copy this data fro m the “Backup ” folder on the com puter to your pla yer . Then connecting the
player t o the comp uter to be installed, follo w the above pr ocedure from st ep to install.
The backup da t a is preserved in the following “ C” dr ive on y our com puter b y the default ins tall setting.

ZAPPIN enables sequential playback of song clips at a preset duration. Normal playback Changes to ZAPPIN. Short recognizable clips of songs (such as the most melodic or rhythmical section) The ZAPPIN playback time for song clips can be set to either “Short” or “Long.” Returns to normal playback and restarts playback of the current song from the beginning.
